Many people have asked me, what inspired you to write the song "Not my Will"?
So here goes, this song was written during a time of intense emotional pain and struggle. I was at that point in my spiritual walk, where each of us arrive at one time or another, where big decisions must be made. When we get to those big important moments in our life, such as, who should I marry? should I accept that call to ministry? or what direction should I go? Primarily the big picture comes down to this, will I do my own will, without consulting God of His purpose for my life? or will I place my will, my plans and my aspirations on the alter, surrendering all, and accepting God's leading and guidance, and perfect will for my life?
We all know by faith that God's way is the best way! but how many of us have chosen our own way in this life because we wanted it? Imagine if at every milestone in our life we completely let God guide us? imagine the possibilities, where would we be now? we could be walking in the centre of His will, our lives could be a blessing to those we are in contact with, and imagine the impact our witness for Jesus could be?
Well perhaps in the past we have failed to allow God to guide us, and maybe we have made decisions that we now regret, and the consequences have had disastrous results in our lives and to those around us, but don't be discouraged. God's loving, protecting and guiding hand is still outstretched to clasp you by the hand and guide you from NOW ON!
God answers prayers before they are even finished, just like He did to Daniel. If you, with sincerity of soul, seek Him and surrender all, and ask for guidance, He will gladly answer, you just need to be willing to be obedient to that answer, because it may be contrary to your own will. He wants to give YOU a purpose for your life, He wants to reveal to you the SPECIAL PLAN that He has just for YOU, He wants to lead you down a path that will change your life. Walking in His will for your life gives peace, because He has chosen the best way.
Sometimes in this Life, God will ask us to surrender things or give up things that aren't necessarily bad, but they don't align with His plan for you. Sometimes the most loving people don't find a soulmate and sometimes the most maternal women don't have children. But one day in Heaven, we will see that our seemingly unanswered prayers and our disappointed hopes, will actually be among our greatest blessings. That's why we must learn to trust our Heavenly Father who knows whats best for our life, and when we look back on how He led us, we will see that it was the best way and that we would have chosen the same way if we could also see the end from the beginning.
So although sometimes giving up your own plans and desires for your life or your aspirations may be tough, remember that God knows whats best for us, and He wants us to have life and have it more abundantly, so trust Him! Please trust Him, because He loves you more then anyone you've ever known :)
